Today’s Grace

Host:  Good afternoon everyone and welcome to “Today’s Grace!” the only show that gives guests and viewers a daily demonstration of Jesus’ saving grace!  Today we discuss troubled teens and the heartbreak they cause.  Our first guest is a doctor from the Columbia Medical Center, who has had problems with her teenage daughter.  Please help me welcome Dr. Joy Elizabeth.

(Joy enters and sits on chair center stage.  Audience claps politely.)

H:  Welcome.  Tell us a little about your teen, Dr. Elizabeth.

Joy:  Well, my daughter Melissa is very active in school.  She is on the varsity cheerleading squad and frequently attends games.  Since she is also in Drama Club, Melissa is so busy she doesn’t go to church.  I can’t remember the last time we attended church as a family. I don’t think she has been to Bible class or youth group in an even longer time. (worried) I don’t know what to do.  I don’t want to see her drift away from God.

H:  (to audience)  Can anyone help Dr. Elizabeth?

(Several hands go up in the audience.  The host walks up to Audience member #1 and hands the mic to them.)

AM#1:  Have you ever sat down and talked to your daughter about Jesus’ unfailing love? (sits)

Joy: (angered)  Of course I have!  I took her to Bible school two years in a row!

H: (smoothing things over)  It seems like we need to hear from our next guest, Joy’s daughter.  Please welcome Melissa to our show.  (To Melissa) Melissa, it seems like you lead a pretty busy life.  How does God fit in?

M:  Well, I just have so much to do.  I go to football and basketball games and usually have a big part in the Spring musical.  I really don’t have time for God.  Besides, what has He done for me?

H:  (gives mic to audience member)

AM#2:  How can you say that?  God is the one who gave you the ability not only to be a cheerleader but gave you your friends and family.

M:  (valley girl voice)  Like, hello!  I’ve worked hard for all that I have.  God didn’t give me my friends.  They like me for who I am.

J:  Melissa Ann!  I’ve taught you better than that.

H:  And now we bring in our last guest.  Chris is a college student who recently lost his best friend to cancer.  Chris, how have you dealt with this tragic loss?

C:  Matt’s illness and death was one of the hardest things I’ve gone through, but I am comforted to know he is in heaven right now with Jesus.

M: You make it sound like you’re glad he’s dead.

C:  I miss Matt but I know it’s better where he is.

H:  Are you also certain of going to heaven, Chris?

C:  Of course!  I know that even though I try to be a good person, I still sin.  But since God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to suffer and die for all my sins I can be sure of His unfailing love.  And that’s not all!  He rose to guarantee that His death paid the price for all sin.  God’s anger has been settled.  And the Devil’s accusations are all null and void.  Because Jesus rose from the dead I will rise to live with Him in heaven forever.

H:  Wow!  Sounds like you have a certain future!

AM#3:  Are you sure?  I mean is there something in the Bible to prove what your saying?

C:  Sure!  Joy and Melissa can I share a paraphrase of John 3:16 with you in a personal way?

Joy:  Sure.

M:  I guess so.  It sounds pretty cool.

C:  For God so loved Joy and Melissa that He gave His only-Begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to suffer, die, and rise in victory for Joy and Melissa so that believing in Jesus as the Savior from sin, Joy and Melissa shall not perish, but Joy and Melissa shall have everlasting life.

H:  Well, it sounds like a simple but beautiful message that we have all heard.  What great love God has shown us by giving us such a Gift!  Joy, what effect will God’s love have on the way you live your life?

J:  I’m going to entrust my daughter into God’s care.  I’m going to pray daily that God will guide her decisions when my faults make it hard for her to listen to me.  He is a Father who loves her as much…well, even more than I possibly can.  I’m going to do my best to show by example that my relationship with God is the most important priority in my life.  My job as a doctor is a way that I serve God and should never be an excuse to avoid worshipping God.  I’ll also try to understand and encourage my daughter in all of her activities as we try to find the proper balance together.  I hope that she will help me do the same and understand and forgive me for the many times I fail.

H:  And Melissa?  How will this new understanding of God’s love and your mother’s concern effect your busy life?

M:  I think I understand now that God has given me His very best Gift.  He’s a loving Father I can trust to know and want what is best for me in every area of my life.  He wants me to be active and involved and have great joy in living but I know that I need to find the right balance.  There are so many choices!  I’m going to ask God to guide me as I make decisions on what is important right now in my life.  And I’m going to rely on my Mom’s insights and experience.  After all, she and Dad are also very important gifts that God has given.  I can see now that His love is shown through theirs.  I can’t be too busy to listen to those who have and would give up everything for me.

H:  I’m glad to see what a difference the good news of God’s grace makes in the lives of individuals each day all around the globe.  We have seen some beautiful examples here today on Today’s Grace.  May God bless each of our guests, our studio audience, and those who are watching at home.  May God keep all of you aware of His care and eager to share His great love!  God be with you!  Join us again soon!
