OAFC Board of Directors
Report by Daniel Barz, Assistant to the Executive Director
April 2001

MEDICAL RELEASE FORMS - Following our last meeting, the latest form was reviewed and slightly revised. It is now posted on the web site and has been sent with Summer Training registration forms.

BACKGROUND CHECKS - I was not able to get or find anything from synod's youth ministry office. In communication with the Michigan District office, Bruce Braun suggested that fingerprinting could be done and checked through a local police headquarters. I would hope that we could avoid going as far as fingerprinting, using a license number or check through references instead.

SUMMER TRAINING - Orval Peters has secured 13 churches to host 14 teams. In late January I met with representatives from most of the host churches to review the many tasks that need to be completed. They will be meeting again soon and will contact me if they have any other questions. My plan is to head to OKC July 6 to complete any necessary arrangements. This month I hope to complete most of the training manual.

SUMMER TRAVEL TEAMS - We are blessed with leaders PasMc, Tom Clark, and Ed Allen. The itineraries for all teams are being completed with the PasMc and Ed doing a great job of setting up their own stops.

CRIER - I met with Steve Ruhlig to review the process in setting up the Crier. I have 4 estimates for producing the Crier. None is cheaper than our current publisher. We need to check on their price for a different format. Continuing with some type of printed publication can be good for us to give to churches we visit. We might also develop a monthly short electronic publication to post on our web page and/or send via e-mail.

WEEKENDS - Like many directors I have suffered from postponements (much preferred over cancellations). We will do well to pray for our future weekends, the host congregations, and the arrangements that are being made. I am thankful for a full fall schedule.

WEB - I have learned more about the web by developing my own site for SW Michigan. Lutherans on Line is free, but is not the best host if another is available. My continued thanks to those (especially Ed Allen) who continue to work on it.

WORK SCHEDULE - Due to an increased workload I plan to start working at Lakeshore Marble 7:00 to 4:30 on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays and until noon on Fridays. I will work on OAFC all day Wednesdays, Friday afternoons, and briefly the other days (at least enough to check and respond to e-mail). Yes, I am more than open to giving all my work time to OAFC. If that is not possible, I would like to enter another part-time ministry that would be willing to share me with OAFC.
