Personal Witness
"Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken."
Isaiah 54:10
Have you ever seen a mountain? I went to Canada on a band trip four years ago, and I still remember how huge the mountains were. I'm not usually afraid of heights, but with only one little cable and a metal box holding me hundreds of feet above the solid ground, I was a little closer to panicking than I want to admit. I remember praying the whole way up and forcing myself to look at the distant treetops below me.
Mountains look very steady. In fact, they're probably one of the most permanent features of planet Earth. But even these gigantic piles of rock, dust, and dirt don't last forever - earthquakes and volcanoes see to that.
If even these seemingly immovable mountains change in the blink of an eye, what can we trust to never change? God's love. God's love for his children hasn't ever changed. When we make mistakes (earthquakes and volcanoes) the mountain of God's love doesn't move, unlike earthly mountains. He loves us so much that he sent his only son, Jesus Christ, to suffer painful agonies and die a humiliating death on a cross, abandoned by his loved ones, just so that we could be forgiven for our imperfect mistakes. Jesus' resurrection shows us that NOTHING can come between our loving Heavenly Father and us, the children he loves.

Don't worry if nothing on earth is permanent or lasting; God's love is here, and it always will be.

2012 New Years Gathering Report

The OAFC New Years Gathering was a huge success! Sixty eight youth and adults and six local youth attended this year from the states of IA, IL, MI, MO, NE, OH, OK and TX to study God’s Word around the Philippians 2: 1-11 theme of “Unity Through Humility”. Five training teams of approximately 15 members each studied God’s Word, praised God in song, witnessed about Jesus, participated in games, wrote dramas, attended workshops in writing personal witnesses, learning guitar basics and honed skills on puppetry and drama while building new friendships and growing spiritually in their faith. The gathering was held at Christ Our Rock Lutheran High School in rural Centralia, IL with local congregations from Messiah, Carlyle / Trinity, Hoffman / St. John’s, New Minden/Trinity, Hoyleton / Salem, Salem / Trinity, Nashville, IL supporting us either in our area witness of Jesus love and forgiveness in the community. OAFC’s own interim, executive director, Rev. David Dobbertien was the guest speaker. God blessed the door to door canvass the last day of 2011 with temperatures in the 40’s which were appreciated but quite unseasonable for an Illinois winter. The survey results of the neighborhood survey are:
Five teams made 280 calls; found 13 prospects for congregational follow-up; left literature at 314 homes where no one was home; made 43 Ablaze calls to individuals who were inactive in a church or had no church home and were presented with the Gospel and given a chance to respond to that Gospel message. 8 youth and 1 adult were trained in sharing the Good News of Jesus suffering, death and resurrection. There were 29 commissioned youth, 27 commissioned adults, 14 non commissioned youth and 1 non commissioned adult. The offerings from the New Years service door offerings by hosting congregations amounted to $912.50 with one congregation yet to mail in their offering.
OAFC theatre delighted ambassadors as each team presented their own fifteen minutes of fame in a unique and hilarious rendition of events, persons and situational portrayals which occur within our organization. This year a common theme seemed to run through the evening with television programing as the basis for many skits as our executive director, Rev. David Dobbertien was fondly remembered for his many jobs by each team.
